Best Portable Infrared Grills

I thought about camping and started looking at different grills but really only looked at the typical Coleman grill. This of course is the industry standard and what everyone I know grew up with when they went camping. Then I found these cool portable barbecues and thought to myself I should make a top four list for this.

That’s what I did, so here is my abbreviated search for the best portable infrared grill out there. Want to search for yourself, click here?

Best Compact Infrared Grill

Solaire Anywhere Portable Infrared Propane Gas GrillThe first portable infrared grill we’re going to take a look at is the Solaire Anywhere Portable Infrared Propane Gas Grill, which has close to 40 reviews on Amazon and a good percentage of them are four and five star reviews even though a few people gave it one and two star reviews.

This is a very portable unit that uses an electronic push button ignition like a larger gas grill would use. Plus it utilizes the smaller one-pound propane cylinders but you do have the option to go with a larger 5 gallon tank if you purchase an adapter for the barbecue.

It comes with 155 in.² of total grilling space and can pump out around 14,000 BTUs per hour. This is quite good for a small, portable grill like this one. This particular grill measures approximately 21 inches wide by 13 inches deep and 12 inches high and weighs around 25 pounds so it is easily maneuverable and can be toted just about anywhere quite easily.

 Best Portable Infrared Gas Grill

Solaire SOL-EV17A Everywhere Portable Infrared Propane Gas GrillThe second infrared grill is made by the same company (Solaire) but is a little bit different and is about $100 cheaper than the last model we looked at. This model is called the Solaire Everywhere! Portable Infrared Grill, so the only difference is the word everywhere as opposed to anywhere, quite confusing I know.

The finish is a little bit different on this grill, it has more of a matte type of finish whereas the last Solaire grill had a stainless steel finish which was a lot more mirror-like. This Solaire model also runs on the one-pound propane cylinders and can be converted to run on larger propane tanks or can even run off of natural gas if that was the route you wanted to go.

It of course has an infrared burner like the last model and has similar specs. Being able to push out 14,000 BTUs and the same amount of cooking area (155 square in.) like the previous model. This unit actually has a little bit better reviews and was split between either five-star reviews (which made up approximately 75% of the total number) and one and two star reviews which most of the customers were complaining about dents on the grill when it arrived.

Best Small Infrared Gas Grill

Napoleon PTSS215PI Freestyle Portable Infrared Gas GrillThe next portable grill we are going to look at is the  Napoleon PTSS215PI Freestyle Portable Infrared Gas Grill. It only had a small number reviews and three stars on average but I thought it was worth mentioning and a good candidate for the best portable infrared grills because a lot of the reviews seem to revolve around the individuals not realizing how small the actual grill was and upon receiving the item the barbecue and a few minor dents on the exterior.

This is much larger than the other two models and has approximately 320 in.² of cooking space that you can utilize and is constructed of stainless steel, which is always a nice touch.

This portable BBQ actually uses standard portable propane cylinders that you would use when you are camping. Just like the other barbecues on the list, you can purchase an optional adapter to connect to a larger propane tank. I noticed that most of the individuals who bought this grill also purchased the adapter hose and a tote bag it which comes in.

  Best Tabletop Infrared Grill

MAGMA A10-918LSThe last portable barbecue on the list is the MAGMA A10-918LS / Magma “Newport” Gourmet Series Infrared Gas Grill and boy is it shiny! It comes equipped with 162 sq. in. of space that you can grill on (measures roughly 9″ x 18″). The legs are pretty cool and can foldaway when you need to pack it up and then pulled back out when you need to use it again.

There are a few features that can be found on this magma barbecue that you can’t find on the other ones. Like a temperature gauge, a mirror finish and the foldaway legs. I personally really like this grill and it is under $400, which is not a bad price for what you’re getting. Well worth it in my opinion.

This grill did not have any reviews on Amazon but I did find a handful on a couple of other sites. I was glad to see that many of the people that have purchased this grill really liked it and recommended it to their friends. I believe it is a strong contender for this particular category.

My overall thoughts about these infrared barbecues:

I was kind of disappointed to see that there was not a huge selection of portable infrared gas grills on Amazon, or anywhere else for that matter. But I guess they are kind of a specialty item, if you will and many people either don’t know they exist or don’t really have a use for them. This is also why, I believe, that there were not as many reviews on these types of grills like you can find on some of the more popular larger models.

I hope you enjoyed my list of the best portable infrared grills that are currently available and I’d love to hear any feedback or suggestions you might have for me. Be sure to check out a couple of my other pages that revolve around various infrared grills that are primarily sorted by price. I have a page on models that are under $1000, infrared grills that are under $500 and under $300 as well.
