aI can understand that some grills out there are very nice but quite expensive at the same time and maybe you want to spend less than $500 on a decent one, maybe half that price or less, even.
For those of you who said yes, this list should help a little bit because I reviewed various models in search of the best gas grill under 200 dollars and found a few that stood out among the rest based on their overall number of reviews, ratings and a couple of other important factors. Click here to see a larger selection of grills like these.
Best Rated Gas Grill Under 200 Dollars:
The first gas grill I wanted to talk about is a very popular one with over 1,550 reviews, with a four and a half star rating, of which more than 85% of those were 4 or 5 stars! This is an Amazon bestseller (Coleman RoadTrip LXE Propane Grill) and is a top contender in this category for a good reason.
The Coleman Roadtrip ranges in price from $130 all the way up to $254 depending on which color, out of the six total you are interested in so keep that in mind if the color of the BBQ is a deciding factor for you. The colors range from blue, dark gray, green, maroon, orange, purple and red (with the red model being the least expensive and the blue model being the most expensive).
This is a very transportable grill that can actually fold up into what looks like a suitcase type of design with rollers so you can tote the grill along with you just like you would a suitcase at an airport, something that I have only seen on a handful of other barbecues.
This Coleman barbecue comes equipped with a 285 square inch grilling surface and has to burners that are fully adjustable up to 10,000 BTUs (on each burner) and has side tables built in, along with: tool holders, an electronic ignition and its overall size is approximately 48″ x 18″ x 35″.
Best Outdoor Gas Grill Under $200…
For traditional outdoor bbqing, using a gas type grill has become quite normal, so it is fitting for this Char-Broil Easy-Assemble 3-Burner Gas Grill to be the best fit in the outdoor (under 200) category.
This classic gas grill features 3 different burners that each have the capability of producing 12,000 BTUs on their own which equals 36,000 total, alongside a 12,000 BTU side burner.
It is easy to assemble, mainly due to the fact that it does not have an enclosed cabinet beneath it like some other models have. You get a total of 522 square inches of cooking space to enjoy whatever it is you happen to be cooking, 380 of those are dedicated to the main cooking area and the other 170 in.² form the secondary rack.
All in all, this turned out to be a pretty decent grill and had more than 300 reviews, of which 80% of them were three stars and up.
Best 4 Burner Gas Grill Under $200:
I honestly could not find any grills under $200 that had four burners, so I went with the next closest thing and found one (Thermos 4-Burner 48000 BTU Gas Grill with Side Burner) that was a mere $10 over the budget.
It comes equipped with 480 in.² of primary cooking surface and an additional 205 square inch warming rack, which gives you 685 in.² total.
It does have four stainless steel burners that push out a total of 48,000 BTUs (12,000 BTUs each) and comes with a side burner attachment that is capable of churning out 10,000 BTUs.
This Char-Broil BBQ Is Just Under 200 Dollars:
The next grill on the list (Char-Broil 530 inch² 35,000-BTU 2-Burner Gas Grill with 8,000-BTU Side Burner) does not have the capabilities that the other contenders have but has decent reviews and seems to be a “good buy” for the money.
This Char-Broil grill is a two burner model that is capable of dishing out 35,000 BTUs through the main burner and an additional 8000 BTUs out of the side burner.
Everything else is pretty standard when it comes to grills in this price range, one thing it does have is a little storage basket on the front of the grill that I did not notice on the other barbecues.
Best Portable Gas Grill Under $200
For the portable category I chose to go with the Coleman 9941-768 Road Trip Grill LX mainly because of its size (much smaller than the LXE model we talked about first) and because it uses 16.4 ounce disposable propane cylinders which is very handy on the go.
This grill is completely collapsible and has to fully adjustable burners that can crank out 20,000 BTUs.
The grate on this Coleman grill is made of aluminum, not cast-iron like some of the other grills and comes with a griddle as well, so you are able to mix and match different cooking surfaces (griddle, flat, etc.).
So I think this model is a better fit for the portable gas grill category, even though the Coleman X LE model we looked at first could also be a strong competitor too, maybe for those of you who want a larger but still portable model.
Conclusion For The $200 Gas Grill Category:
Overall, most of these grills priced under $200 seem to be either a portable type of grill or an outdoor model that most people would use at their house. There were two real contenders in the category and those were the two Coleman grills which provided more portability than anything.
The outdoor grills had a tendency of having two, three or four burners and a side burner, which is a nice addition for the price but lacked the cabinet underneath for additional storage. Many of the one and two star reviews were really aimed at the quality of the grills, how flimsy the metal was and not lasting for more than three years.
This should be expected if you are looking for a grill around the $200 mark, seeing as how there’s not a whole lot of room for quality parts like you’d find on grills around the $500 range or the higher and grills around the thousand dollar mark.
