Best Charcoal Grills Under $500

Best Charcoal Grills Under $500

This was probably one of my more enjoyable lists to put together because charcoal barbecues seem so simple and when you add a few cool little features they seem to be much more convenient and a lot more competitive with the gas models.

Here is my top performers in some of the best charcoal grills under $500 that are available on the market today. All of these have great reviews and many of them, might I add so you can view what others are saying about these grills and decide if one particular model will work better for you than another.

The Ultimate Weber Charcoal Grill:

The first grill on the list is probably one of my favorites the Weber 1481001 Performer Platinum Charcoal Grill because it has so many cool features that I would love to have if I was going to buy a charcoal barbecue myself.

This platinum Weber grill comes equipped with a gas ignition system that is a touch-and-go system, meaning that you can throw your charcoal into the canister light the ignition and it will do the rest of the work for you, which means no more babysitting the briquets! With the push of a button, you can ignite the charcoal, do a couple things you need to do, come back and start cooking, that’s pretty darn exciting.

This Weber BBQ even features an LCD countdown cooking timer with a larger readout for individuals that are busier than others and have a tendency to burn the food. The large storage bin on the right can hold a ton of briquettes and they will stay dry, so you don’t have to store the charcoal in a different spot anymore.

A Unique Design For A BBQ Grill…

The next charcoal grill in the lineup is the Char-Griller 16620 Akorn Kamado Kooker Charcoal Barbecue Grill and Smoker. The Kamado cooking style is what inspired the creation of this black charcoal smoker and BBQ grill.

Some of the features include a 306 in.² cooking surface that is accommodated by a 165 in.² warming rack. One of the best features is the installation and design of this barbecue, which will hold in the heat better and circulate the air and heat much better than a traditional type of barbecue ever could.

It is available in three different colors that range from black, brown and red in which the price varies depending on which color you choose, so be sure to check the prices for the different colors, seeing as how they all will vary quite significantly.

A Full Sized Unit Is Next:

Third on the list, is the Char-Broil CB940X Charcoal Grill the cost around $400 and is more of a full-size type of grilling unit.

This heavy duty charcoal grill provides you with 540 square inches of cooking space made out of cast iron, which is reliable and will last virtually forever if covered and kept out of the elements.

The Char-Broil CB 940 X also features a removable ash pan, which is always nice and much more convenient to clean up afterwards than a fixed ashtray. Two side dampers provide control over the temperature inside the grill and the adjustable fire grate gives you more control over the amount of sear you would like your food to have, two very essential items to have on a charcoal bbq.

One Of My Favorite Charcoal Grills In The Lineup:

The next charcoal bbq is the Landmann 591320 Smoky Mountain Bravo Premium Charcoal Grill with Offset Smoker Box. This is a very cool, full sized unit that has a unique design in an optional smoker box that makes it a combo grill as well.

This has the largest cooking surface of all the grills listed here, coming in at 1048 in.² of total cooking area. There are two doors located on the front of the unit that are used for tending the charcoal throughout the cooking process without interrupting the maintained heat inside the grill itself.

What I like about this Landmann bbq the most is the look of it, the flat black with the chrome accent pieces made it really stand out to me and having a two in one function (smoker and charcoal grill) made it even better, even though it only has 3 1/2 stars on Amazon.

A Discontinued Model, But At A Great Price!

The last barbecue charcoal grill I wanted to talk about is the Char-Griller 16619 Kamado Kooker Charcoal Barbecue Grill and Smoker, Char-Griller 16619 Kamado Kookerwhich is very similar to the other model listed second in the lineup but is discontinued by the manufacturer and is offered at a very competitive price, much lower than the rest of the grills listed.

You can expect to see the same type of features with this Char-Griller model that you did with the other Kamado Kooker barbecue grill at the top of the list, so I won’t go into a whole lot of detail about it.

It has the same amount of cooking space (306 in.² of primary cooking space and 165 in.² of room on the warming rack). Some main differences are the side tables and handle that are made of natural wood on this particular model and give off a little bit of a distinction with the black grill. This barbecue only comes in black and does not offer any other color like the other model does.
